How to apply for an AdSense account

Whether you’ve only recently started a business online or have been going for a while, Google AdSense is the most popular ad network around and the best way to start monetizing your traffic with display ads. This ad network offers a wide range of ad units for multiple platforms and devices and includes optimization tools.

You don’t want to apply for an AdSense account only to be rejected because you did not follow the instructions correctly or adhere to their policies. In this guide, we’ll show you how to apply for an account in 2019 and beyond, step by step and get accepted.

Requirements

Google is very serious about the quality of their ad network. They are very strict about the requirements, rules, and regulations you need to follow. Below are the requirements you need to adhere to before signing up to AdSense.

  • You need to be at least 18 years old.
  • You need to have an active Gmail account that isn’t linked to an AdSense account.
  • You need to have a website, and that website needs to meet all of Google’s terms of service.

Pro tips from MonetizeMore

Although the following tips aren’t written in stone, we believe that they will improve your chances of getting accepted by AdSense.

  • Your website should be at least 3 months old.
  • You should have at least 30 articles published that are unique and valuable to readers.
  • There is no minimum traffic amount that you should have, however the more, the better.

How does payment work

There is a minimum threshold of $100 that you need to earn in ad revenue before you can get paid. Also, keep in mind that Google follows a net 30 payment term. As an example, when you earn ad revenue during September, your revenue will be sent out to you in the first week of November – 30 days after the billable month is over.

Step by step: How to apply for your AdSense account

Start by visiting the AdSense website here: https://www.google.com/adsense/start

On the same page, click on “Sign in,” and you’ll get directed to a page where you need to sign in to your Gmail account. After entering your email address and password, click on the “Next” button.

Now you’ll need to enter all your details, which includes your website and email address. You can also opt-in for customized help and performance suggestions from AdSense. Your screen will look something like this:

website details

On the next page, you will receive instructions that will enable you to connect your website to AdSense. AdSense will provide you with a snippet of code that you need to add to your site within the <head> </head> section. They will also give you specific instructions on how to do so when you have a WordPress site. Once you’ve inserted the code on your site, click the submit button.

Connect code to website

Now your website is ready for the Google AdSense team to review. Be sure to keep the snippet of code live on your site until AdSense responds. Sometimes it takes a few days or up to two weeks for the AdSense team to get back to you. 1. Hello. Ottiom article. My site is over 3 months old and has more than 30 articles. I have already been waiting 5 months for Google Adsense to be activated. Do I have to think that Google Adsense has it with me? Thanks for the support.

    • There’s no minimum number of articles you need for AdSense approval. There are many factors, such as quality of article, site layout, uniqueness and value of content, and all the other program policies we mention in the article. Keep improving your website as much as possible, do some original research, improve the site experience for visitors and you’ll have a much bigger chance of success. Good luck!

    • Looks like you’re trying to create a hosted account, whereas our article was for people with websites; this is why the instructions are not appropriate for you. In the URL box, enter the URL of your YouTube channel (youtube.com/channel/XXXXX) and then click ‘Continue in YouTube’. At that point you go through the YouTube signup process by following the on-screen instructions.

  8. what if my hosting and domain has expired? is the adsense account is still active or it’s deactivated?

    Reply
    • The AdSense account will remain active, although after six months it will (probably) become dormant. Whatever you do, don’t create another one in the future, use the existing one (even if it’s dormant, you can reactivate it).

  9. Thanks bro. I apply absence but it does not approve my site. Why?

    Reply
    • Lots of reasons; inappropriate, copied, non-original or insufficient content, poor layout, non-compliance with Program Policies. We can’t comment on individual non-approvals as we don’t have access to this information.

    • We can’t make individual judgements on site approvals, nor is there a magic number of articles a site needs for approval. You can try, but in our experience the number of articles needed will be sufficiently higher. Quality is always more important than quantity, too…

    • There’s no problem with this if you applied for AdSense and got rejected. You can apply to join as many times as you like; if the content is good enough you will be approved.

DO we apply again with the same email? Any changes to make?

    • Yes, you can apply again, and with the same email. Obviously you’ll need to improve the site or you’ll get the same result, so improve page layout and quality, site content etc.

    • Possibly if you’re using a different email in your site editor to your AdSense, the site editor might not like it. You could try adding the site editor email as an authorised user in your AdSense account with administrator privileges.

        • Sorry to hear that. We’d suggest writing to the tech support/forum for the site host giving details of the issue.
