What’s with all the AdSense fuss? Is Google’s AdSense really the advertising program it’s cracked up to be?
Google’s AdSense is one of the best advertising options available (find out how to start making money with it here). Why? Google makes it very easy to use AdSense, and that makes it easy for you to earn money. You just have to follow Google’s rules and comply with AdSense requirements.

Knowing a few AdSense tips and tricks won’t hurt either. Check out these Top Adsense Tips:
1. Bland is boring
Think of ad space as a blank canvas. If you had the opportunity to take out a full-page ad in a glossy magazine, would you choose boring colors (or the same colors for all of the ads that you create)? You’d likely create very unique and visually appealing ads that stand out. Mix up the ads on your site in order to create ads that blend nicely with the rest of your site design.
Ad background colors that are similar to your site’s background colors are a great idea too but don’t make your ads exactly the same color (Google doesn’t love this tricky tactic!). Not so skilled in the color department? Work with a graphic artist to create shades that really pop.
2. Be placement perfect
Choose high ad placement. Primary ads appearing on a page will gain the most income per click, and that’s what it’s all about.
3. Think visually
Select images, flash, and video ads before text ads. Why? We live in a visual world where the eye always buys. Choose embedded images, animation sequences, and even short advertorial content. If you go the video route, remember that the first ten words used as part of a vide script are the most important.
4. It’s all one big ad party
Did you know that your CTR is calculated based on your complete AdSense account, and not on individual sites? If you run a number of different sites, one low CTR will bring down your overall account – even if your other sites are booming. Got a site that has a 0.02% (or lower) CTR? Get rid of it. It’s that simple.
5. Opt-in (to placement advertising)
Let advertisers showcase ads on your site including all of your banners. Not sure where to get advertisers? This part is easy: the simpler it is to find your site, the more advertisers you will attract. Why bother? Placement advertisements yield higher RPMs than contextual advertisements.
AdSense code requirements
There are requirements (see why AdSense applications are rejected here) to meet when working with the AdSense program. One of the most important things to note is that AdSense will require you to add a piece of code to your website. Why? This code determines the configuration of the advertisements and the content embedded.
Important: Do not edit or change your AdSense code.
You gain earnings based on the number of ads linked to your website, and how often your site gets “clicked.” Google AdSense utilizes a system that assimilates your earned revenue based on a per-click basis and converts after the clicks according to your ad impressions. In short, you won’t get paid if you play with the Google AdSense code or don’t add it to your website.

Been using Adsense on my blog for years and it has been a reliable income source. Lately it seems the payout is down and my traffic has went up. I currently have 2 ad units setup on the site but was thinking of using autoads and show more. Do you think this will increase the eCPM of the account or is it the overall trend of adsense?
Absolutely worth testing it to find out. Every site is different.
